Skeptics in the Pub are a group of people in Oxford who like to have a drink and talk nonsense.
Each month, we find a speaker - typically a scientist or prominent sceptic who will speak for around 40 minutes. The subjects of the talks vary, but they will typically be about a common belief that either cannot be justified by the available evidence, or that can actually be demonstrated to be false by the available evidence.
Examples of these subjects are:
- Alternative Medicine
- Psychics & Mediums
- Religious Beliefs
- Holocaust Denial
- Pseudoscience
- Creationism
And many other subjects from economics, politics to business.
The talk is followed by an informal discussion.
Meetings are held in a pub called the Chequers. We start meeting at around 6.30pm with the intention of the talk starting around 7.30pm.
The Chequers might be quite hard to find if you have not been there before as it is down a little alleyway just of the top of the High Street. You will find it, but you may not find your way out again.
It does not matter what your prior beliefs are on these subjects. If you want to defend your beliefs and think scepticism is misplaced, then this is the evening for you. Have fun. We welcome all.
